What is the process after an application is submitted?

Please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

Campaign Manager- San Francisco, CA or Washington D.C. 

We are looking for a Campaign Manager to lead and support (Commission) efforts with our chief of staff, marketing, and communications, and advocacy teams, and external partners, to generate a clear call to action for a comprehensive national tech policy agenda, as well as support related tech and kids advocacy and campaign projects at Common Sense Media. 

Director, Education Foundations Partnerships- San Francisco, CA 

We are currently seeking a talented professional to join our foundations team to work on building and managing foundation relationships to support our education efforts. The foundations team is responsible for raising $8M+ per year, with an existing portfolio of 25 active foundation partners. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the rapidly evolving K–12 education sector, with fundraising and program development being part of their previous role. Exceptionally strong written and oral communication and presentation skills are critical. 

Director of Product Design - San Francisco, CA (remote during the COVID-19 pandemic)

As Director of Product Design, you are a design-centric leader responsible for bringing exceptional human-centered digital experiences to life. Thoughtful, cohesive, accessible, and intuitive design is central to our mission of making the digital world a better place for all kids. 

Family and Community Engagement Content Editor- San Francisco, CA (remote during the COVID-19 pandemic)

The family and community engagement content editor will use their expertise in family engagement to create high-quality written content -- from short-form articles to family handouts for schools to text-message tips -- that supports all families, with a focus on reaching Black, Latinx, and lower-income communities and a particular focus on Black communities. Other responsibilities may include managing content in a database and working with other departments to deliver family resources for a range of projects and initiatives. All work will be done through a child-development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. Family and Community Engagement Coordinator  - San Francisco, CA

We are seeking a Family and Community Engagement Coordinator to support and manage content, marketing, communications, and social media efforts, bilingual texting offering, and general program needs focused on serving lower-income families and communities of color across the country. 

Marketing and Communications Manager- San Francisco, CA

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Manager is a key stakeholder in the development and implementation of our speakers bureau and thought leadership program as well as our conference and event strategy. 

Marketing Copywriter (contractor) - San Francisco, CA 

We're looking for a customer experience marketing copywriter (contractor) who is able to translate concepts into clear, succinct, and engaging copy across multichannel customer experiences. The ideal candidate excels at writing conversion-focused copy and has helped organizations increase customer acquisition and retention.

Media Reviewer- Podcasts- (contract)- San Francisco, CA (remote available)

The equity-focused podcast reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through the lenses of child development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contract role will produce anywhere from one to 10 new podcast reviews per month. Work may also include updates to previously published reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. 

Policy Counsel - Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA 

We are seeking a POLICY COUNSEL skilled at analyzing legislative and regulatory opportunities and communicating with lawmakers and other decision makers.  This position will support our advocacy work to achieve public policy that positively impacts kids, primarily in the technology, media, and education space.

QA Engineer - San Francisco, CA

We are seeking a highly motivated QA engineer who can create and maintain automated tests for our flagship Common Sense Media website and API as well as serve as a manual QA black box tester. This position requires you to collaborate with various people across the organization, although primarily you will be working with the engineering and product teams. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, very detail-oriented, and proactive, can work well independently as well as collaboratively with the full team and is a strong driver for results and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in QA automation with demonstrated technical leadership and interpersonal skills. 

Senior Policy Associate - Washington, D.C. (remote during the COVID-19 pandemic) 

Common Sense is looking for a senior policy associate to help manage Common Sense's tech and kids advocacy agenda on Capitol Hill and within the states. This position is primarily focused on federal policy support but, as needed, also will support the advocacy team on state and international advocacy. 

Senior Visual Designer (Contractor) - San Francisco, CA (option to work remotely)

We are seeking a senior visual designer (contractor) to drive impactful creativity that delivers results across brand, acquisition, and retention.

TV Reviewer (contract) - San Francisco, CA (option to work remotely)

The TV reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to watch, evaluate, and write about TV/streaming content for parents through a child development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contractor will produce anywhere from 4 to 10 new reviews per month. Work may also include updates to older reviews.
